Review & Description

The item up for bid is the "KING DAYTONA" 1969 Charger Daytona of "Big Willie" Robinson, his Hemi Orange drag car. One of the most famous street racers of all time, this Los Angeles based 6' 6" man commanded respect. After the 1965 Watts riots Big Willie and his wife Tomiko organized the "Brotherhood of Street Racers" designed to help get the kids off the streets, away from the drugs and crime. Working with local officials and police, Brotherhood Raceway Park was opened on LA's harbors Terminal Island, and people had a place to go. Made as when raced in the "earlier days" of it's racing life, it changed from month to month, sometimes week to week, always trying to make it faster. These have many new parts like the tear drop lift off hood, a new cross ram intake, new dual four carburators, new velocity stacks, plus fuel lines and fuel filters. These are all new parts for this 426 Hemi motor, plus a new race shifter, and also new deep dish Torque Thrust wheels for on the rear, with a pair slicks of course. We're trying to do it right. This car was also used in the very opening of the movie "Two Lane Blacktop" doing some night racing. The tear drop hood lettering is there, saying African Elephant, and they come in special packaging also. Big Willie's KING DAYTONA is a Limited Edition of only 648 made for Supercar Collectibles.
